This drama is about the life and love of Jung Yi (Moon Geun Young). She was the first and the best female potter in the Joseon Dynasty period. After she was kidnapped to Japan during a war, she demonstrated the superiority of Joseon potters in Japan.
Before she notices heaven’s will, she was just a little girl who likes to play clay. In her era, Chosun, female cannot be a chief of pottery-kiln.
But, she does not care irrational beliefs or practices. She swears to be the best ceramist for her father.
From the childhood, it’s clear that he’s smart and had ability to be a king. But, his smartness returns to him as a poison.
His father –the preceding King – loves his younger brother from different mother.
“The order of precedence to become king” is after his elder brother. So, he started to understand that, if he accumulates and shows his ability, it would return as a harmful situation for him. He has no supporting group in the kingdom because his mother died early.
One day when he goes out for hunting with his father king, he meets his woman-in-destiny, Jung yi.
Since their childhood days, he had treated Jung Yi just like his own little sister. After he helped his parents at their own-shop, he assisted Jung Yi’s daily life. It became his daily pattern.
He did not know it was love. He considered it as his obligation.
After Jung Yi entered the palace, he becomes a subordinate of Kwanghae, in order to stay close with Jung Yi.
But, when he recognizes Kwanghae’s feeling for Jung Yi, he becomes nervous.
She dreams to be the first female ceramist in Chosun but then she recognizes that Jung Yi is more talented than her and she wouldn’t win.
Though she cannot make ceramics by herself like Jung Yi, she has excellent eye to distinguish pottery’s artistic quality.
After she knows how to use money and power, she tries to grasp whatever she wants.
6th generation royal ceramist. His family has been famous for making pottery. Before Jung Yi’s father appears, he thinks that he is the best in Chosun. 10 years later he competed the highest place in royal pottery kiln against Jung Yi’s father, now his former rival’s daughter gives him frustration again. His anger explodes.
His 1st wife, the Queen, has no child and died early. So, in his era, there was a secret-war among Concubines. Kwanghae is 2nd son of 1st Concubine. 1st son of 1st Concubine was considered inadequate for King. But, 1st Concubine is also died early, leaving Imhae and Kwanghae.
Kwanghae’s elder brother. Wild and cunning. Since he saw his mother, the 1st Concubine of Sunjo, became sick after gave birth Kwanghae, he charged all problems to Kwanghae. He always feels inferior against his younger brother.
